We want to help you maximize not only the quality of your pet’s life, but her longevity. The name of the game is “find it, before it finds us”. We are absolutely convinced that regular wellness exams, every 6 months, throughout the life of your pet will allow us to catch things early, before it hurts, or become irreversible. This allows us to establish baselines or normals for your friend and become aware of any health problems before they become a serious illness. Since she cannot tell you when he/she is not feeling well, you must rely on regular physical examinations as well as your own observations of your pet. In order to thoroughly evaluate your pet’s health, we highly encourage you to take advantage of our very economical annual Wellness Profiles. Routine yearly laboratory, & parasite tests are recommended for all those under our care. Often the best medicine is no medicine.
How often does my pet need a wellness exam?
Every year that your dog or cat ages is equivalent to that of five to seven human years, so it is extremely important that you have a wellness exam for your pet at least twice a year. There are many aspects of your pet’s health that can change in a very short amount of time, especially as they become older.
What can I expect during my pet’s wellness examination?
Generally, at the beginning of any exam, our veterinary nurse will take your pet’s temperature and current body weight, and ask you many questions regarding your pet’s health since the last visit.
We will examine your pet-friend from head to toe, checking her eyes, ears, nose, mouth, lymph nodes, and skin for any outward signs of health problems, All of these areas can often reveal possible health issues including bacterial & yeast infections, glaucoma, cataracts, kidney problems, allergies, periodontal disease and more. Her heart and lungs will be listened to with a stethoscope for early signs of heart and respiratory disease.
Her abdomen will be palpated to check for any abnormalities such as swelling, tumors, enlarged organs and painful areas. This will help to detect any problems with her stomach, intestines, kidneys, liver and other organs. Muscles & joints will also be examined and checked for any swelling, stiffness and pain.
If any abnormalities are found, we may recommend some additional testing to verify or diagnose a health problem. An accurate treatment plan will be reviewed with you prior to proceeding so that you will know what to expect.
Never underestimate the importance of having regular wellness examinations for your pet. Our hope is to work with you as a team for the benefit of your pet. Regular examinations helps pets live longer, happier and healthier lives.
